What it is

Is quartzite right for your kitchen?

Quartzite is a natural stone. It starts as sandstone and turns into quartzite under heat and pressure deep in the earth. It is harder than glass and harder than a knife blade, and every slab has its own veining.

Why people ask for it now

Designers are choosing it more than any other countertop. In the NKBA’s 2027 Kitchen Trends Report, 78% of designers expect quartzite to be popular for countertops, just ahead of quartz. It has the look of marble on a stone harder than glass.

What designers ask for

Designers use it on counters and up the wall. In Houzz’s 2026 study, a third of slab backsplashes in renovated kitchens were quartzite. Many also like it in a leathered finish: matte, lightly textured, and good at hiding fingerprints.

When you sell your home

Buyers notice it. In Zillow’s 2026 analysis of home sales, listings that mentioned quartzite countertops sold for 5.3% more than expected, the highest of any countertop Zillow measured.

Why people choose it

  • Natural stone, every slab one of a kind
  • Harder than glass, hard to scratch
  • True quartzite does not etch from lemon or vinegar
  • Works on counters, islands and full slab backsplashes

How to care for it

  • Sealing depends on the slab: some barely need it, some need it from day one
  • Do a water test: if water soaks in instead of beading, it is time to seal
  • Clean with a gentle cleanser, water and a soft cloth
  • Wipe up spills, especially oils and wine
  • Use a cutting board to protect the finish and your knives

Before we cut it

We design the layout of your slab.

We plan where every piece comes out of the slab, so the veins flow from one piece to the next and your countertops look right. Before we cut, we show you the layout.

A slab layout: each outline is a piece of the countertop, placed on the slab so the veins line up
A real slab layout. Each outline is one piece of the countertop.

Every quartzite slab is different. We help you find the one you want, and you see where the veins land on your island and your perimeter before we cut.

  • Want to see the slab in person? Go see it at one of our stone suppliers. We design the layout and cut it.
  • Love a stone over budget? We show you one from the same family that costs less.
  • Want a full-height backsplash? We install it in the same stone.
  • Looking for a specific color? We help you find it, including remnants.

No. Quartzite is quarried natural stone. Quartz countertops are made in a factory from crushed quartz and resin.
